Parfums de Marly is a contemporary perfume house founded in 2009 by Julien Sprecher. Its visual world draws inspiration from eighteenth-century France and Château de Marly. It is important to distinguish the brand's founding date from the historical references on its bottles.

What does 1743 mean?

According to the house's official story, the emblem pays tribute to the Marly horses: sculptures commissioned by Louis XV from Guillaume Coustou in 1743. The number on the bottle is therefore part of its inspiration and symbolism, not a claim that the modern brand was founded then.

Haltane as an example of contrast

Haltane places fresh and warm facets side by side. Its official pyramid opens with bergamot and pink pepper. In the heart, saffron and praline meet lavender and clary sage. Oud, patchouli, vetiver and leather form the base.

This list says more than simply calling it a woody fragrance. It shows how aromatic herbs and spices can contrast with a richer woody finish. Sweetness is just one part of the composition.

History is a starting point, not a substitute for personal taste

A beautiful bottle and cultural references can awaken curiosity. The next step is to read the notes and compare different compositions from the house. Our suggestion is to write down the accents you want—citrus, flowers, spices or woody depth—and use them as a guide.
